Q: What do you love most about your current position?
A: I love the variety. There's never a dull moment in my role as a Marketing Manager. One day I could be creating and distributing a communications survey, the next day I could be creating e-books, planning a seminar or launching a paid digital advertising campaign. There is always a lot going on and it keeps me on my toes. 
 
Q: How did your degrees from the J-School prepare you for your career?
A: My BA and MA degree from the J-School helped me hone my writing skills, learn how to ask the right questions (which are important in communications and marketing) and not be afraid to talk to people. These skills were all refined through my coursework and group assignments while I was enrolled in each of the programs. 
 
Q: What was the biggest challenge you overcame during your time at MSU?
A: Transportation was a challenge for me. I didn't have a vehicle while I was at MSU and so a lot of projects and/or internships I wanted to do required me to get the bus, ask family for rides or find other creative solutions. I believe where there is a will there is a way. A professor or two even commended me on this and my ability to get things done. 
 
Q: What advice do you have for students who consider a double major or dual degree?
A: Talk to your counselor if you are interested in double majoring or graduating with two bachelor degrees like I did. I graduated with a BA in Journalism from the J-School and a BA in Media and Information (both came out of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences). Make sure you understand what courses are required and how much additional time a second bachelor degree will require. If you double major, you will have specialized in two concentrations but receive only one degree. I also recommend learning about the BA to MA program for journalism at MSU. I was the first graduate of that program and it allowed me to earn my master's degree in one year instead of two years. 
 
Q: Where on campus do you like to hang out when you visit MSU?
A: I like to stop by the library and get a coffee from Sparty's. I usually eat at the Brody cafeteria with my husband (a MSU alumnus). My husband and I also go bowling sometimes at Spartan Lanes at the MSU Union.
