Florida State entered their Friday night showdown in Charlottesville ranked No. 8 in the country and carrying plenty of momentum after opening the season with an upset of then No. 8 Alabama. Mike Norvell’s team looked ready to make another statement as ACC play began.

But Virginia had other plans.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Seminoles battled all the way back, erasing multiple deficits and forcing overtime with a clutch fourth-down touchdown pass in the final minute of regulation.

After the teams traded field goals in the first overtime, Virginia found the end zone in the second and converted the mandatory two-point try to take an eight-point lead.

Florida State had one last chance, but an end-zone pass fell incomplete before Virginia intercepted the Seminoles on fourth down to seal a stunning 46-38 upset.

Within seconds, Scott Stadium erupted as thousands of fans rushed the field, celebrating Virginia’s first home win over a top-10 opponent since... Florida State in 2005.

The unforgettable win became one of the signature moments of Virginia’s season, while Florida State was left wondering what could have been after letting a dramatic comeback slip away in double overtime.
