Cheba Hut has finally opened its first location in the Cornhusker State! The Colorado-based toasted sub chain officially opened Thursday July 30th in Lincoln's Telegraph District, bringing its signature sandwiches and laid-back atmosphere to Nebraska for the first time. The restaurant is franchise-owned by Andrea and Aaron Remaklus, who said the idea of opening a Cheba Hut in Nebraska began as a dream years ago after becoming fans of the brand. "We love Cheba Hut, and we don't have one in Nebraska," Andrea Remaklus said. "I can't drive eight hours to Colorado to get my Cheba Hut fix." The opening also represents a homecoming for Cheba Hut founder Scott Jennings, who grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, before launching his first restaurant in Tempe, Arizona, while in college at ASU. Now, the chain is based out of Colorado, with locations in 22 states, with the newest being Nebraska. Jennings said bringing the brand back to his home state has always been one of his long-term goals. "We've wanted to be in Nebraska for a long time," Jennings said. "To finally make it happen is really special." The Lincoln restaurant is located in the growing Telegraph District, an area owners believe fits the brand's personality while helping introduce Cheba Hut to a new customer base. Known for its toasted sandwiches, cannabis-themed menu names and eclectic décor, Cheba Hut has expanded to more than 70 locations across the country. Customers attending Tuesday night's friends-and-family preview received an early look at the menu ahead of Thursday's grand opening. For the Remaklus family, opening the restaurant is about more than serving sandwiches. They hope Cheba Hut becomes part of the Lincoln community through local partnerships, fundraising events and neighborhood involvement. For Jennings, the opening carries added significance. After building the company into a national brand, he can now say Cheba Hut has finally arrived in the state where his journey began. The Lincoln location marks the chain's first of hopefully many restaurants in Nebraska and another milestone in its continued national expansion.
