Today, we honor the Indigenous peoples whose traditions, culture, and resilience shaped so much of the world we know — including the origins of lacrosse.

Long before it became the fast-paced sport we know today, lacrosse was known as The Creator’s Game, played by Native nations like the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Cherokee, and others. It was more than competition — it was spiritual, a way to bring communities together, to heal, and to honor the Creator.

At Hoya Youth Lacrosse, Coach B makes sure that legacy is never forgotten. He’s taught the boys the history of the game and honors it before each home match with a historical recap — reminding them that every time they take the field, they’re carrying forward something much bigger than the sport itself. 🥍
