Today may be the last day of Black History Month, but before it closes, we want to take a moment to celebrate and honor the pioneers, athletes, and leaders who have shaped the game of lacrosse and expanded opportunities for generations to come. 🥍🖤

And we proudly recognize the pioneers who paved the way:

Albert F. Lewis – Recognized as the first known Black lacrosse player, dating back to 1888. He played for the Cornwall Club and represented the Canadian National Team, competing at a time when opportunities for Black athletes were extremely limited. He later moved to Nebraska and formed a lacrosse team that competed across the state. His presence in the sport more than a century ago is a powerful reminder that Black history in lacrosse runs deep.

Tina Sloan Green – A trailblazer in women’s lacrosse, she was the first Black member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, and the first Black head coach in women’s collegiate lacrosse at Temple University. She has dedicated decades to advocacy, mentorship, and inclusion in the sport.

We celebrate modern standouts like:

Kyle Harrison – All-American at Johns Hopkins University, pro champion, and co-founder of the Black Lacrosse Alliance, using his platform to grow representation in the sport.

Myles Jones – Former first overall MLL draft pick after a standout career at Duke University.

Jules Heningburg – Professional and Team USA athlete known for leadership and excellence on and off the field.

This month — and every month — we celebrate those who broke barriers, built pathways, and continue to grow the game.
