55-year-old father st*bbed trying to stop fight between young girls in Ottawa park‼️😨🔪

Two youths have been charged after a 55-year-old father was st*bbed while trying to break up a dispute involving several girls under the age of 15 at Craig Henry Park.

The incident happened around 9:40 p.m. Thursday near Craig Henry Drive and Greenbank Road. According to Coun. Sean Devine, the man stepped in to stop the conflict before he was st*bbed twice in the abdomen.

He was transported to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Ottawa police later confirmed that two youths had been charged, but no further details were released.

The Craig Henry Park incident was one of four assaults Ottawa police and paramedics responded to within less than 24 hours between Thursday and Friday. Three of those incidents involved weapons.

Three of the four assaults happened in or around the ByWard Market, including an edged-weapon assault on Clarence Street that left a woman seriously injured and another fight near George and Cumberland streets that sent a man to the trauma centre.

The incidents add to a growing string of violence in the ByWard Market over the past two weeks. Police have said the recent cases do not appear to be random and that the people involved were either known to one another or had come together before the incidents occurred.

Coun. Devine says residents have also raised concerns about intimidation, dangerous driving and violent activity around Craig Henry Park. He added that officers told him they were not surprised to hear of youths carrying knives, calling the situation extremely troubling.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Investigations remain active, and all charges and allegations have not been proven in court.
