On Monday, August 3rd, Greg Haney, the head coach of the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team, announced his resignation as he will pursue other hockey opportunities.

Haney, a native of Marcellus, NY, was a three-year player at SUNY Cortland where he dressed in 42 games accumulating 6 goals & 16 assists for 22 points. He became an assistant coach with the Red Dragons during his junior year and stayed in that role until graduation in 2011.

In his most recent role at Elmira College, Haney led the Soaring Eagles to an 64-22-2 (.727) overall record during his three seasons. The team won three UCHC titles under his helm and three National Tournament appearances. They fell in the 2024 National Championship while appearing in the Quarterfinals the last two seasons.

Haney’s coaching career has been nonstop since his playing days, serving in assistant coaching roles at the National Sports Academy (USHS-NY), Western New England, UW-Stevens Point, Oswego State and Lindenwood (DI). Prior to joining the Soaring Eagles, his first head coaching gig came at Potsdam from 2020-2023.

According to the news outlet, WETM, assistant coach Madyson Moore is set to take over as interim head coach for the Soaring Eagles.
