James Robinson deserved better. One of the best rookie running backs in the NFL in 2020 went undrafted in the NFL Draft. After every NFL team passed on him, the Jacksonville Jaguars gave him a chance and he made the most of it. Robinson had 1,070 rushing yards, 49 catches, over 1,400 total yards, and looked like the franchise running back of the future of the Jacksonville Jags. He didn’t have the best speed, but he beat NFL defenses with his vision, patience, power, balance, and broken tackles.

That Jaguars team wasn’t exactly loaded with talent either. Robinson shared the field with Gardner Minshew II, Mike Glennon, Jake Luton, Trevor Lawrence, DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., Keelan Cole, D.J. Hayden, Myles Jack, and Josh Allen. For a while, it looked like the Jaguars had found their answer at running back without having to spend a draft pick. Then he had an Achilles injury in 2021, changing everything. One of the toughest injuries an RB can suffer altered the trajectory of his NFL career. He was traded to the New York Jets to join Zach Wilson, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, and C.J. Mosley, but he was never the same football player. After that, he had short stints with the New England Patriots, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, and New Orleans Saints.

For his first two seasons, James Robinson was one of the biggest steals in football history and look to be one of the future running backs in the NFL. Although it ultimately didn’t end up working out, this is an undrafted player spotlight that I wanted to share with Instagram users, especially the sports fans on social media following this Instagram page that often gives undrafted sports players a shoutout.
