Sometimes adjustments make big differences. For Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki changed gloves and is now doing better than he was. You saw it with Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the New York Yankees wearing Giancarlo Stanton’s pants and using another piece of baseball equipment from MLB AllStar Aaron Judge. According to Pitching Ninja, the LA Dodgers’ coaching staff thought Sasaki was tipping his pitches by exposing his grip before throwing the baseball. Instead of making mechanical changes that could mess with his pitching delivery, they gave him a larger glove to hide the baseball from opposing MLB players, especially the Houston Astros who cheated in the MLB Playoffs and World Series with Jose Altuve against Juan Soto and the Washington Nationals and Aroldnis Chapman and the NY Yankees.

Since the change, Sasaki has looked like a different MLB pitcher. Alongside LA Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Will Smith, Blake Snell, Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernández, Max Muncy, and the rest of Los Angeles’ loaded roster, Sasaki is a dangerous weapon in a stacked rotation. Pitch tipping has changed MLB careers before. At any level of baseball, a visible grip, a glove angle, or a different hand position can give baseball batters an advantage. I’m not sure if it is really the baseball glove or if Sasaki is just becoming more comfortable in Major League Baseball and performing better. It’s probably a combination of both. Either way, Roki Sasaki has the Los Angeles Dodgers much closer to the dominant ace who took Japanese baseball by storm.
