Iran has denied that it is currently holding talks with the United States, contradicting comments from US President Donald Trump that negotiations were due to take place.⁣

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that Tehran had no plans to send or receive a delegation for discussions with Washington.⁣

The comments came after Trump said on Sunday that talks with Iran would take place the following day, after he decided against ordering new strikes on the country following appeals from Gulf allies including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.⁣

Baghaei said Iran’s current focus was instead on negotiations with Oman over arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.⁣
