Her impact cannot be measured by one match, one tournament or one historic qualification.

For years, Silvéria “Nita” Nédio has dedicated her life to developing football in Cabo Verde. She guided our women’s national team to its first-ever qualification for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, led the team to a WAFU Zone A final and continues shaping the future of the game through her work at Bola Pra Frente Academy in Praia.

Her influence extends far beyond the women’s game.

The same academy where she coaches helped develop World Cup players such as Kevin Pina and João Paulo Fernandes, proving that building a football nation starts long before the biggest stage.

None of this came with the advantages of a traditional football powerhouse. It came through years of sacrifice, hard work, belief and a commitment to giving every young Cape Verdean an opportunity to dream.

Tomorrow, Cabo Verde returns to the pitch against Mali, the very nation our women overcame in a historic comeback to secure qualification for their first-ever WAFCON.

Regardless of the result, history has already been made.
