It’s Tiger Tuesday: Summer Edition, and we are spotlighting 3 Tigers who apparently decided weeks without school would be entirely too relaxing. 🐯🛠️

Incoming freshmen Ryan Sharp and William Kitch and incoming junior Eitan Alperstein recently completed the competitive Robert Welter Fellows Math & Make Program clearcreekmakerspace —an intensive six-week STEM fellowship designed to take math off the worksheet and put it to work in the real world.

🔧 Five days a week for the last 6 weeks, these students worked their way through the Makerspace’s Fab Lab, Woodshop, and Metal Shop, learning everything from CAD, coding, 3D printing, and laser cutting to woodworking, CNC machining, metalworking, and welding.

And they learned A LOT.

As the program coordinator shared, the fellows grew from being “hesitant to even touch a 3D printer” to “confidently woodworking, welding, machining and more”—taking on increasingly complex projects while learning how math, engineering, design, creativity, and problem-solving work together.

💡 The fellowship culminated in a final project showcase attended by friends, family, professors, community members, and even the mayor of Wheat Ridge! Students were challenged to think beyond simply making something cool and consider how their creations could become tools for self-expression, solve problems, help others, or even generate income.

🧰 And while the fellowship may be over, the making definitely isn’t. Each fellow leaves with a full year of access to Clear Creek Makerspace and a pretty impressive collection of new skills.

Mazel Tov to Ryan, William, and Eitan on a summer of measuring, modeling, machining, making—and discovering that math becomes even more interesting when power tools and fire are involved.
