#longpost There was a time when I thought my biggest moment had already happened.

I was that young girl in Sister Act 2 with the shiny legs and the big voice. I signed record deals. I chased the dream with everything I had. Then the phone stopped ringing. The plans fell apart. The doors I thought would stay open quietly closed.

For a while, I wondered if that was the end of my story. But God had a different plan he wasn’t letting me see. 

He wasn’t writing my ending. He was writing a new beginning. Before He gave me bigger stages, He gave me a love that healed me. Michael and I built The War and Treaty one song, one prayer, one mile and one audience at a time. There were no shortcuts. Just faith, tears, hard work and the understanding that some people are meant to stay for a lifetime, while others are only meant to walk with you for a season. Through it all we held on and kept choosing each other.

I spend a lot of time in dressing room mirrors and they remind me of every version of myself I’ve had to become to get here.
I turned my back to this mirror to remind me that I don’t have to become anything. I just have to be still and know that this life is so much bigger than me. 

When I think about our ACM and CMA nominations, Americana Award wins, an Emmy Win and 2024 Grammy nominations for Best New Artist that all came at the age of 50 I don’t think about trophies.

I see proof.

Proof that my delay was a not denial.
Proof that purpose doesn’t have an expiration date. Proof that God can breathe life into the dream you thought was gone and make it more beautiful than you ever imagined.

So if you’re starting over don’t be discouraged. Sometimes God closes a chapter because the story He’s writing next is far greater than the one you were trying to hold onto.

People will try to tell you who you are, they will walk away from you, try to tell you what you can’t do and when your time has passed. Don’t believe them. Life is one big guessing game when you’re following human voices.

Your destiny has never belonged to anyone else..not even you.

It has always been in God’s hands.
