Something is happening to an entire generation right now. Kids are scrolling through Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, only to find short videos of someone describing a handful of feelings and thoughts they are having. After watching these videos, people walk away thinking they completely understand what is “wrong” with them.

Shortly after, some of them will start asking an AI chatbot the same question late at night and trying to self-diagnose, instead of talking to a real person who understands what they are going through.

Now, this is not their fault. It's just that they have not met or been introduced to someone who can teach them how to clearly understand what's going on and how to work with it. Because of this, our teens rely on videos they find because they have no other place to turn.

A few things worth knowing here:

1. Finding a label on a screen is not the same as understanding yourself. Recognizing a feeling in a video is not the same as knowing what to do with it in your own life.

2. Figuring yourself out without any real tools tends to create more confusion, not less. A lot of kids say they feel worse after the video, not better. Which makes sense.

3. What kids actually need is a custom system that is built around how they think. Not some kind of label. Something that tells them what to do the next time the feelings show up.

If you work with young people and are seeing the same things, leave a heart.
