The Chiefs' proposed domed stadium may not mean a permanent switch to artificial turf.

Team President Mark Donovan told the Kansas City Star that the organization's preference remains natural grass and that the new stadium — targeted for 2031 — is being designed to accommodate either surface. 

He pointed to emerging innovations, including indoor venues that successfully grow grass, as reasons the club remains confident natural grass can be part of its long-term plans.
