I’ve been thinking a lot about the way grief forces you to pay attention to every little thing lately. Stuff you wouldn’t usually notice. 

When you lose someone who held a big piece of your heart, the world feels quieter, but it also gets a whole lot louder in the weirdest ways. You start noticing things you used to brush off. Like a song on the radio at the exact right moment (Long Live always seems to come on shuffle when I’m on I-4 heading to Disney), a sudden shift in the color of the sky, hearing a phrase that you haven’t heard in years that catches you off guard.

For a long time, I wondered if I was just making everything I saw up. If I was just desperate to find Taylor in the middle of a world that felt so incredibly empty without her. But then came the afternoon I went back to Tuscaloosa in 2024, a place filled with memories of her. I somehow ended up stuck at a red light behind a license plate that read LLTJ22 (#LongLiveTaylorJenkins, who died on March 22nd) covered in a Nurses Save Lives frame.

The best script writers couldn’t write that kind of timing. You can’t make it up.

Grief is exhausting, but moments like that remind me that grief is really just love with nowhere to go… until it finds its way back to you when you need a big hug the most. The signs are real if you’re open to seeing them. They don’t make the missing them go away, but they make the silence feel a whole lot less lonely.
