Chase Young was special at Ohio State! 🔥

Chase Young recorded 16.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in his junior season at Ohio State in 2019, both of which set program single-season records, and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Vince Lombardi Award — three of the four major defensive player of the year awards in college football — in the same season.

Young finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2019, the highest finish by a defensive player in the award’s history at that point. He was suspended for two games that season after an NCAA eligibility issue involving a personal loan and still finished with those numbers across 12 games. 

Ohio State’s defense during his tenure allowed 17.9 points per game in 2019, and Young accounted for a disproportionate share of pressure generated — his pass rush win rate that season was compared by analysts to elite NFL edge rushers already active in the league. He was selected second overall by Washington in the 2020 NFL Draft.
