During a stop on her tour in Chicago, Ariana Grande addressed fans directly about a recent announcement from her team regarding her decision to step back from public-facing work.

“Basically, the announcement that was made yesterday was neither a knee-jerk reaction nor an impulsive decision,” she told her Chicago crowd. “It’s something I’d planned for a long time, a decision I’d quietly made quite a while ago. It’s a thoughtful decision, made with full awareness and confidence.”

In a statement released by her representitives on Sunday, her team revealed that Ariana’s break from “public-facing work” was caused by “endless ongoing public scrutiny” and due to her break she would no longer be a part of the highly anticipated West End revival of ‘Sunday in the Park with George.’

During her speech at her Chicago show, Ariana acknowledged that although fans were worried that the negativity was ruining everything for the ‘petal’ songstress, she said that’s the opposite of what’s actually happening. She needs to set boundaries and like all human beings, she needs to take a break.

“No matter what noise is circulating out there, nothing can ever distort my reality or be more real or more important to me than the love we share. Everything else, it’s not for me to carry, so I don’t carry it.”
