Nearly 2,000 GM workers at axle plants used in Silverado and Colorado production walked off the job after contract talks broke down over wages and mandatory overtime.

Their argument is pretty simple: they took cuts during the financial crisis, helped keep production moving, and now they want those concessions addressed while demand for trucks is still strong.

That’s the tension underneath a lot of today’s labor stories.

It’s not just about hourly pay.
It’s about whether the people building the product feel like they ever got made whole.
