On the night of November 12 to 13, 1833, Earth passed through an exceptionally dense stream of debris left by Comet Tempel Tuttle, producing one of the greatest Leonid meteor storms ever recorded. Thousands of meteors lit up the sky every minute, with peak estimates reaching nearly 100,000 meteors per hour. The spectacle was so overwhelming that many people believed the apocalypse had arrived, while scientists later realized it marked the predictable return of a comet's debris trail.
