Barry Darsow says WWF wrestlers were told to stay in character when they taped Family Feud in 1993.

Darsow appeared on the show as Repo Man during a week of episodes pitting WWF stars against each other, with teams that included Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, Papa Shango, IRS and the Big Boss Man. Ray Combs, a wrestling fan who also appeared for WWF at WrestleMania VIII and Survivor Series 1993, hosted.

Answering a fan question on the DemoPod, Darsow said the company wanted the gimmicks protected on set.

“They wanted us to be the character, and not really break that character. But you had to, to do the show.”

He said the game itself was harder than it looked.

“What was amazing about that show is you don’t have much time to come up with those answers, and there’s no cheating involved. You’ve only got that 10 seconds or eight seconds, whatever it is. It’s tough when you’ve got the crowd and everything there.”

On the experience: “I really enjoyed that. It was a lot of fun. It was a good group of guys, and we all got along good together.”

On Combs: “You’re looking at Ray Combs, who’s a funny son of a gun. Just the stuff he says. It was really a lot of fun. It was good memories.”
