Beginning Aug. 1, the tax rate for the Northern Illinois Transit Authority, formerly the Regional Transit Authority, went up by .25% in six counties.

That includes Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties.

In Cook County, the tax rate is 1.25%, while the others are 1%.

This tax applies to purchases of: general merchandise, Qualifying groceries, Qualifying drugs and medical appliances, Items that must be titled or registered in Illinois, Medical and adult use cannabis, and Aviation fuel.
