The biggest meteor shower of the summer is almost here.

The Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak overnight on August 12–13, with the best viewing between 1 and 5 a.m. Thanks to favorable moon conditions this year, skywatchers could see up to 50 to 90 meteors per hour under dark skies.

For the best views, head away from city lights to places like Blue Hills Reservation, Halibut Point State Park, Ward Reservation or the Cape Cod coastline.

All you need is a dark sky, a blanket and a little patience. No telescope required.
