Jarren Duran's nightmare season is really getting to him.

After another 0-for-4 on Thursday night in which he showed up his teammate Willson Contreras for not tagging up and trying to score on a fly ball to shallow left field, Duran ripped into himself:

I mean, that's harsh, but he's also ... not wrong.

As we head into the home stretch of the 2026 campaign, Duran is mired of one of the worst seasons in Red Sox franchise history.

His .195 batting average? That's the worst mark ever by a qualified hitter in Red Sox history.

His .252 on-base percentage? That's the third-worst mark by a qualified hitter in Red Sox history, and the lowest of the live-ball era.

And his 58 wRC+? That's the fourth-worst mark by a qualified hitter in Red Sox history.

Duran has been by far the worst qualified hitter in the American League in 2026, and, despite his 13 homers and 15 stolen bases, he's been a below replacement-level player this year.

Even during Boston's recent 15-game winning streak, Duran was a complete dud: he hit .170 with a .569 OPS over that stretch.

It's truly insane how bad he's been. Just two years ago, Duran was one of the best players in baseball; he actually finished eighth in AL MVP voting and earned All-Star Game MVP honours!

But baseball is a cruel game. It'll humble you. And barring a major turnaround over the next couple months, Duran is going to end up responsible for one of the worst individual seasons in the 125-year history of the Red Sox.
