Millions watched the arrest of a 21-year-old ASU senior after a confrontation with Tempe police went viral. Now the case has taken another turn.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office declined to pursue the original felony charges, but the City of Tempe has now filed four misdemeanor charges: assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstruction. The case is still ongoing, and none of the charges have been decided.

Bonner’s attorney says officers used excessive force and has accused an officer of inappropriate conduct during the arrest. The Tempe Officers Association says officers acted appropriately, while Tempe Police says its internal review remains ongoing.
