The woman who ran Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity was sentenced to 62½ years in prison after prosecutors said she stole more than $826,000 from the nonprofit over the course of four years.

According to investigators, Karen Marie Northcutt used the charity’s money to pay for her mortgage, home renovations, vacations, groceries, legal fees, vehicles and more. The scheme was uncovered after an anonymous tip in 2024.

Court records also revealed Northcutt had previously served more than 10 years in prison after a 2005 embezzlement conviction under a different last name. The nonprofit said it did not conduct a national background check before hiring her.
