When Samuel was born at just 26 weeks, he weighed only less than 2 pounds.

Just weeks before his birth, health workers at Lewanika General Hospital in the western province of Zambia received Save the Children's Essential Newborn Care training, including Kangaroo Mother Care—a lifesaving approach that uses skin-to-skin contact and supports breastfeeding to help at-risk newborns survive and grow.

With months of dedicated care, Kangaroo Mother Care and breastmilk, Samuel grew stronger every day. Today, at 10 months old, he is healthy and thriving.

“I truly believe my baby is alive and progressing today because of the care and support we received,” says Samuel’s mother.

This #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, we’re celebrating the power of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin care and trained health workers to give even the smallest babies the best possible start in life. ❤️
