Google Assistant is officially being replaced by Gemini.

Beginning September 4, Google will start removing access to Assistant across Android phones, tablets, Wear OS watches, compatible headphones, earbuds and Android Auto. The rollout is expected to take several weeks.

Once Assistant is removed from an eligible device, users will no longer be able to switch back.

This is more than Google retiring a familiar product.

It marks the transition from traditional voice assistants built around commands to generative AI systems capable of understanding context, holding conversations, reasoning across information and eventually taking action.

The voice assistant era is ending.

The AI agent era is beginning.
