Vaisakhi always brings me back to images and ideas that carry real meaning, and this is one of them.

I have always felt drawn to this image of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In many ways, he has always been my idea of a hero. Not just for his strength or courage, but for what he stood for. The clarity, the fearlessness, the willingness to lead from the front and yet remain grounded in humility.

There is something about this image that stays with me. The calm, the presence, the white falcon, and the sense that it holds far more than just visual beauty.

What makes it even more meaningful to me is the history behind it. This is a circa 1900 oleograph published by the Chitra Shala Steam Press in Poona, (Pune). It comes from that early period when printed devotional art helped bring powerful Sikh imagery into people’s homes and everyday life.

I first came across it when it appeared at auction at Bonhams in 2023, and it has stayed with me ever since. Not just because it is beautiful, but because of what it represents.

The line beneath it reads: ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲਾ - Wah wah Gobind Singh, aape gur chela
Wondrous, wondrous is Gobind Singh, who himself became both Guru and disciple.

On Vaisakhi, that feels especially significant. It points to one of the defining moments in Sikh history in c.1699, when Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa and then asked to receive Amrit from the Panj Pyare himself. For me, that is one of the most extraordinary examples of leadership there is. Strength with humility. Authority with equality. Conviction with selflessness.

That is why this image has stayed with me. It does not just depict Guru Gobind Singh Ji as a warrior or sovereign figure. It captures something deeper about Sikh thought, Sikh leadership and the spirit of Vaisakhi itself.

Wishing everyone celebrating a very Happy Vaisakhi. #Vaisakhi #Baisakhi #HappyVaisakhi #Khalsa
