STEP 4: DON’T SEARCH.

This may be the simplest step of all.

If you don’t search, you don’t find.

For years, hundreds of people have died in the desert of Doña Ana County. Yet where is the systematic search effort?

Where are the deputies walking the desert?

Where are the organized searches after remains are discovered?

Where is the effort to determine whether more people died nearby?

We search.

Civilian volunteers.

On our own time. With our own equipment. Spending our own money.

We walk mile after mile because we know something painfully obvious:

You cannot find the dead if you refuse to look for them.

And sometimes we find one site.

Sometimes two.

Sometimes three or four in a single day.

We document what we find. We photograph it. We record GPS coordinates. We report it.

And still, there have been reported sites where deputies didn't come.

Human remains left behind.

Clothing left behind.

Phones and personal belongings left behind.

Families waiting somewhere for an answer that may be lying in the desert.

And here's the part that should disturb everyone:

Not searching doesn't mean nobody is there.

It only means nobody is finding them.

No search means fewer discoveries.

Fewer discoveries mean fewer questions.

Fewer questions mean less scrutiny.

And less scrutiny makes mass death easier to normalize.

After 300+ recovered dead, "we aren't looking" is no longer an acceptable posture.

These were human beings.

They had names.

They had families.

They mattered.

🥾 We search because somebody has to.

And we'll keep asking the question the Sheriff's Office should have been asking all along:

WHO ELSE IS STILL OUT THERE?

If you never search, you never have to explain what you find.
