Drought has already been declared in large parts of England, as well as the whole of Wales.
 
There is no single definition of drought, but it usually refers to a period of prolonged unusually dry weather that can have impacts on people, nature and the environment.
 
The Environment Agency - which made the announcement - said in its latest update that the week from 31 July to 6 August was the "seventh consecutive week of less than 10mm of rainfall across England".
 
More than 25 million people in England are currently on a hose pipe ban - put in place by water companies to save water when there is high demand or low supply. But drinking water supplies will not be affected any time soon.
