Australia is home to some of the world's most unique wildlife, but it has also become known as the world's extinction capital.
 
The Australian government officially recognises 67 extinct native species, but experts say the true figure is much higher. 
 
Though there are efforts to save rare creatures like the numbat and Carnaby's cockatoo from disappearing forever, many animals and plants are declining quickly thanks to an army of threats.
