Part of Rania Matar’s (raniamatar) series Ordinary Lives. The photograph was taken during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war, which escalated after Hezbollah's attack on Israel on July 12, 2006, and led to extensive hostilities and civilian suffering in both Lebanon and Israel. While the image conveys terror and destruction, it also speaks of hope. In 2024 she photographed the former child once again, amid the chaos of a new war.⁣
