GLJ getting called up right after the trade deadline finished felt like damage control, considering the Yankees didn’t do much outside of Luis Garcia. That said, I’m still excited he’s here. We can finally put an end to the “who should play shortstop” question for the rest of the year.

You’re never sure if what a prospect did in the minors will translate into big league success, but the one thing we know about GLJ is that his glove is nasty. He showed that last night in his debut. The homer was a nice touch, too, of course.

Right now the Yankees are three games out of first place. They have to do whatever they can to close that gap to play at home and not find themselves in another wild card series. Are GLJ and Garcia going to be a much-needed boost? I guess we’ll see. It’s just a bummer they didn’t add a catcher and more relievers.
