This news story reports on a visit by a Kansas Court of Appeals panel to Independence Community College. Judge Amy Fellows Cline and Judge Lori Bolton Fleming, both of the Court of Appeals, were joined by Chief Judge Jeffrey Gettler of the 14th Judicial District. 
 
These community visits highlight the Kansas Court of Appeals' work, give students and members of the public a better understanding of appellate process, and give appellate judges an opportunity to talk about careers in law.
 
Students who attended the session were inspired to learn that a new program through the Rural Justice Initiative will make stipends available to law school students and loan repayment to lawyers who commit to practicing law in rural Kanas. This cross-branch collaboration, in concert with other efforts underway, positions Kansas to make progress addressing the attorney shortage affecting our rural communities.
