A headline can’t tell the whole story, and that's true here. The ABA report confirms findings made by the Rural Justice Initiative Committee that the number of attorneys in Kansas is decreasing, and it’s most keenly felt in our rural counties. That's why the committee recommended the Legislature establish rural attorney training and loan repayment programs to encourage attorneys and law school students to practice in rural Kansas. SB 214 was introduced and heard last year, and the bill may be considered in the 2026 session.
