Cem Karsan joins Jermal Chandler for Tasty Crumbs, and this one closes a loop. Last Monday they laid out a vol compression window into August OPEX and pointed at calendars — sell inside 30 days, buy beyond it. Karsan's read a week later: quite possibly the best trade of the week.

He walks through why the two weeks into monthly expiration are structurally the best window for selling volatility, and the fat tail that sits inside the same dynamic — the reason so many major crashes have happened Friday into Monday of OPEX.

Then the caveat most people miss: index vol compression can drive correlation breakdown, so single-stock vol can outperform even while the index compresses. Selling index vol and selling single-name vol are not the same trade.

Also: why the Friday drop in the VIX is mostly a calculation artifact rather than traders selling into the weekend — the VIX is measured in calendar days while options are priced closer to trading days, so the weekend gets removed across the five days before it.
