Ottawa phones just lit up with emergency tornado alerts as Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the area.

Residents in affected zones are being told to take immediate cover in a basement or interior room away from windows as severe weather moves through. 

The alert was sent at 5:26 p.m. Monday, warning of a potentially dangerous storm capable of producing a tornado and flying debris. Stay inside, keep your phone nearby for updates and take the warning seriously. 🇨🇦⛈️
