John Lasseter auditioned around 200 actors for Tow Mater without finding the right voice for the character.

He eventually checked a stack of comedy CDs, saw Larry the Cable Guy’s album on top, and instantly called him in.

Larry jokingly claimed he gained 1,700 pounds to method-act a tow truck before realizing it was animated.

His natural Southern drawl turned Tow Mater into one of the most beloved automotive characters in cinema history.
