Laser Engraving Tip 💥 👇

If you've ever engraved a deep design on acacia, walnut, or oak — you know the mess. Char residue, sticky soot, especially in the deep pockets of the letters. Looks great right off the machine, then you touch it and your hand is black.

Here's what actually works — no chemicals, no sanding, no damage to the surrounding wood:

A plain white magic eraser. Barely damp. That's it.

Wipe with the grain, light pressure. The residue lifts off in one pass. The engraving stays crisp — even the fine detail in a script font like this "Phillips" board doesn't get softened or fuzzed out. And you're not putting anything on the wood that'll interfere with food-safe finishing later.

Two things I've learned the hard way:

1️⃣ Barely damp, not wet. Wet raises the grain around the engraving and now you've got a bigger problem than the residue.

2️⃣ One direction, with the grain. Circular scrubbing burnishes the char back into the wood fibers.

That's it. Board goes from "just off the laser" to ready-to-finish in 60 seconds.

If you've got a residue trick that works better — drop it in the comments. Always looking to improve the process. 👇

What's your go-to for cleaning up heavy engravings?
