i didn’t go and participate in the fourth of july for the purpose of celebrating the country and the current political environment. in fact, i find it quite disgusting, and really wish that things could have gone better for all of us, especially those who are being unfairly targeted for simply living. it was a privilege for me to be able to comfortably — and electively — leave my house and find solace in simply taking pictures of this event; many hardworking people have had that ripped away from them in this current dictatorship.
tonight, i thought about how i wanted to acknowledge and celebrate my neighbors, and all of the strangers i shared the grass with. this country isn’t worth celebrations, but our local community is. here’s to everyone who wasn’t able to be with us tonight in what was supposed to be a holiday of celebrating each other and our lives in this country.
