Harris County commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved $2.52 million to fund the Harris County District Attorney’s Office independent investigation of the July 7 ICE shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

DA Sean Teare told reporters the money will fund a full-time prosecutor and investigator dedicated to the case. It would also fund outside counsel if a charge against the ICE agent gets filed, because Teare said that would be handled in federal court, outside the scope of what his office does.

The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, as well as the Texas Rangers, have also said investigations are underway.
