The 2024 NFL Draft trade between the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots is painful to look back at. The LA Chargers traded back and got Ladd McConkey and Tarheeb Still, while the NE Patriots moved up to draft Ja’Lynn Polk. McConkey became QB Justin Herbert’s favorite target, having 77 catches for 1,054 yards as an NFL rookie wide receiver. Tarheeb Still is also a big piece of the Chargers defense, making this trade look like a steal for Jim Harbaugh and Los Angeles. After the NFL headlines and football news about Polk’s retirement, I wanted to look back at this NFL trade and share an NFL meme Instagram post with my Instagram followers.

Meanwhile, Ja’Lynn Polk only caught 12 passes for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns with the New England Pats before a shoulder injury ended his rookie season. The Patriots traded him to the New Orleans Saints, but after being with them alongside WRs Chris Olave and Jordyn Tyson, RB Alvin Kamara, and quarterbacks Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler for some of the NFL offseason, Polk surprised NFL fans by announcing his retirement at 24 years old before playing a game for the NOLA Saints. His NFL career ends with just 12 catches.

This is what changes NFL franchises. The Chargers landed two impact players, as Justin Herbert got a WR1 in Ladd McConkey out of the University of Georgia Bulldogs NCAA College Football Program. On the other side, New England Patriots fans are left disappointed while Los Angeles Chargers fans have every reason to cheer. NFL trades can change football teams. Wide receiver Ladd McConkey and cornerback Tarheeb Still were essentially traded for WR Ja’Lynn Polk and WR Javon Baker. The two Chargers continue to thrive while the two Patriots football players are now already retired from the NFL.
