Thousands took to the streets across Pakistan on Friday as Jamaat-e-Islami led protests against the government’s petroleum levy.⁣

Demonstrations in Karachi and Lahore disrupted traffic, with the party’s chief, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, calling for the levy - a fixed tax imposed on petrol, diesel and kerosene - to be abolished.⁣

Rehman warned that the protests could escalate into nationwide road blockades, with major highways from Karachi to Chitral potentially affected.⁣
