Faith Ringgold is a multidisciplinary artist whose work redefined the boundaries between fine art, craft, and storytelling. Emerging from the Black Arts Movement, Ringgold developed a practice that centers personal narrative, collective memory, and political consciousness, using mediums such as quilting, painting, and sculpture to challenge historical hierarchies and reframe the representation of Black life and womanhood.

In ‘Faith Ringgold: Full Circle—The Teachings and Her Legacy’, curated by Mashonda Tifrere (mashondatifrere), the exhibition brings together nearly five decades of work across quilts, paintings, works on paper, and soft sculptures. Framed through her time at UC San Diego, it highlights both the evolution of her practice and her lasting impact as an educator, emphasizing how her focus on identity and lived experience continues to shape generations of artists.
