24 HOURS IN PORTO 🇵🇹 — HIT OR MISS? 👍👎

I recently visited Portugal with my Mom and best friend. We had ~two days in Porto and fell in love with this vibrant city! Here’s what we truly enjoyed and would skip.

👍 1. Take a trip to the coast —
📍Mayltosinhos
did you know Porto has a stunning coastline? 🌊 The seashore is ~ 20 minutes from downtown, and the ride itself is part of the experience:
* Rent a bike
* Take public transportation —STCP #500 bus along the waterfront. €2.50 each way

Walk the coastal promenade and soak up a totally different side of Porto.

👍 2. Find the BEST pastel de nata!

We grabbed numerous pastels, and Castro lived up to the hype! Warm, flaky & creamy.. oh my!!!

👍 3. Go on an AZULEJO hunt 💙
Porto is basically an open-air tile museum. Look for these blue & white azulejos as you walk around:

📍 Igreja do Carmo — the classic tiled church
📍 Capela das Almas
📍 Igreja de Santo Ildefonso
📍 São Bento Train Station — GO INSIDE! The main hall is covered with thousands of historic azulejos depicting scenes from Portuguese history.

No tour needed — just wander!

👎 4. Livraria Lello — controversial, I KNOW. 😂

This is the one we’re giving a 👎 — and I know some will disagree.

It’s beautiful. It’s historic. It’s a small BOOKSTORE, not a library. And yes, it’s famous for its Harry Potter connection.

Here’s the catch: J.K Rowling even said she never visited this bookstore and it had nothing to do with Hogwarts. The Harry Potter connection is largely a myth.

We paid €12.50 for a timed entry, waited in a long line, and spent 10–15 min inside. Prices online are now even higher.

It is ornate and beautiful, but for us, the space was small + crowded, and it didn’t feel worth the admission price or wait.

💡 Great alternative: around the corner is the Igreja de São Francisco museum 👍. It’s dripping in history and ornate gold.

👍 5. Walk across the Dom Luís I Bridge for one of the BEST views of Porto.

Head to Jardim for Morro for sunset 🤩

👍 6. Start the Camino de Santiago at Sé do Porto — or just visit, it’s lovely! ⛪️.
