If you’re getting into Claude Code, you’ve probably seen terms like CLAUDE.md, Skills, Plugins, MCP, Hooks, Subagents, Commands, and Context Windows everywhere.

The problem is that most explanations make them sound way more complicated than they actually are.

So I broke everything down in simple terms:

CLAUDE.md → Project instructions
Skills → Reusable capabilities
Plugins → Packages of capabilities
MCP → Connect Claude to external tools
Hooks → Automatic actions
Subagents → Separate AI workers
Commands → Shortcuts
Context Window → Claude’s working memory

Once you understand how these pieces fit together, Claude Code becomes much easier to understand and use.
