Whether coming from the far left or the far right, gaining political power through division is a long-tried strategy that leads to a lot of short term results, and a lot of long term harm for the population.

Mayor Mamdani has a million dollar smile and is very smart, but so far his true north has been to sow division and fan the ambers of hate.

His strategy has relied on grievance, polarization, and an “us versus them” mentality.

He attacked and endangered Ken Griffin of Citadel for the crime of being financially successful and buying a big apartment that he pays a lot of taxes on. In doing so, he also alienated business leaders that NYC needs to attract, not exile.

He regularly attacks Israel - not the policies of the current administration, many of which I also oppose, but the whole nation. This follows a pattern of decades of absolutism, rejecting Israel’s right to exist as the sole homeland and haven of the Jewish people, rather than constructively supporting a peaceful solution for both Israelis and Palestinians - as I’ve worked towards for decades.

That approach may galvanize partisan support, but it doesn’t solve problems or bring communities together.

There’s a fundamental difference between Builders and Destroyers.

Destroyers gain power by convincing people that their neighbors are the enemy. They simplify the villain and fuel outrage.

Builders do the opposite. They empower people to solve problems, work across differences, and create opportunities that benefit everyone.

Most Americans aren’t looking for more division. They’re tired of outrage, exhausted by extremism, and hungry for leaders who can unite people around practical solutions instead of deeper conflict.

Division may win headlines, but it rarely builds lasting progress. Hope, decency, and collaboration do.

Let’s reject the politics of grievance and choose the harder but far more effective work of building together.
