Artificial intelligence did not begin with generative AI. And the conversation about how it should serve humanity cannot wait.

Years before AI became a part of everyday life, UNESCO's Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence established a shared global framework grounded in four core values:

🔹 Respect, protection and promotion of human rights, fundamental freedoms and human dignity
🔹 Living in peaceful just and interconnected societies
🔹 Ensuring diversity and inclusiveness
🔹 Environment and ecosystem flourishing

Unanimously adopted by all UNESCO Member States, it remains the world's first global standard on AI ethics.

But this is only the beginning.

No country can address the opportunities and challenges of AI alone. As AI continues to transform our societies, international cooperation is essential to ensure its development benefits everyone.

That is why governments, international organizations, researchers, businesses and civil society will come together for the inaugural Global #AIDialogue, mandated by the unitednations General Assembly.

For the first time, States and stakeholders will sit at the same table to help shape a more inclusive approach to AI governance that reflects the priorities of all nations, not just the most technologically advanced.

Because the future of AI should be shaped by all of humanity.
