Would you know what to do if your school was hit by a natural disaster?

As climate risks grow, climate-resilient education is essential, keeping students and teachers safe, protecting school infrastructure, and ensuring learning never stops.

In Malawi, new standard operating procedures protect education from climate shocks, train children and staff to mitigate climate-risks, and keep learning going.

This is part of the Climate Smart Education Systems Initiative, developed by the gpforeducation, UNESCO, savethechildren and the International Institute for Educational Planning.

UNESCO supports ministries of education with training teachers and curricula development to make schools more resilient to climate risks.

By 2026, the initiative will support up to 35 of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries.

Investing in climate-resilient education pays off: By building climate-resilient schools, the Global Partnership for Education is set to save $7.7 billion in potential climate-related damages in partner countries by 2030.
